Downtown Brooklyn BID?

I love downtown Brooklyn. Brooklyn Heights is the neighborhood of my dreams. And while we all know that this is not what anyone would reasonably consider a "needy" part of town, my recent experience has led me to the conclusion that Downtown Brooklyn is badly in need of a BID a la the Golden Triangle in DC. Maps that were created in this century. Helpful people with vests that greet visitors and give directions. Signs that direct people to locations like the Promenade and Jay Street. Someone to tell you what movie/tv show is being filmed on which streets today, and kindly remind you that walking around with a name tag on is not advisable, no matter how clean and safe our city is.

In the meantime, Downtown Brooklyn has me--the woman that everyone in the world stops to ask for directions. I spent a good part of my day downtown on Tuesday and was stopped twice on the same corner (Montague and Court)--once for directions to Jay Street, a near weekly occurence. A second time for directions to Livingston Street.

I read on Brownstoner that there are "Waterfalls" painted on the streets to lead you to the exhibit. Let's think about supporting those on foot, not just behind the wheel, as they look for our borough's great spots.
